The San Antonio Spurs are headed to the NBA Finals after taking the Western Conference Finals four games to one. They easily handled the Utah Jazz. In the final game they hit 51% from the floor, 47% from downtown and 75% from the free throw line.
The Spurs committed only seven turnovers and had five steals and four blocks. The Jazz turned the ball over 12 times.
The starting backcourt/frontcourt combo of Tony Parker and Tim Duncan poured in 21 points each. Parker had five rebounds, while Duncan posted seven. Inside play by center Fabricio Oberto resulted in 10 rebounds.
The contributions of Manu Ginobili, coming off the bench at shooting guard, have been instrumental in this team’s success. In the final game of the series, Ginobili had 12 points (4 of 8 FG, 2 of 4 3-PT, 2 of 2 FT). He also grabbed five rebounds.
Reserves Jacque Vaughn, Brent Barry and Francisco Elson resulted in a total of 26 points. The total bench points equaled 45 points.
Which Eastern Conference team can control these Spurs? San Antonio has speed, great shooting and quick transitions. They also possess depth.
Either the Cavs or the Pistons will need to slow the Spurs down. That will be the first order of business. They must neutralize San Antonio’s guards. That will be very difficult because the team is so deep at that position.
Meanwhile, the Spurs can rest. The Pistons and Cavs must continue to bang it out.
