The Wyoming Cowboys are riding a four-game losing streak which is unlikely to end this week according to college football oddsmakers at Bookmaker. The line is set 15-points in favor of Fresno State, who hosts this Mountain West game.
Things have gone south for the Cowboys ever since the 56-14 pounding at the hands of then- No. 9 Michigan State on Sept. 27. The Cowboys lost an OT game to San Jose State on Oct 18, which could have given the team a winning record.
With both Shaun Wick and D.J. May on the shelf, the Cowboys are left without many options in the backfield. Brian Hill has 171 yards on the season with two TDs, but also averages just 3.6 yards per carry. Colby Kirkegaard hasn’t been horrible, but he hasn’t been enough to offset the injuries the Cowboys have sustained in the backfield. Since May is out for the season and Wick still has another four weeks to go, it’s a long shot that the Cowboys do little more than potentially reel off four more losses.
Fresno State will look to improve to 3-2 in the Mountain West. The Bulldogs have been bad defensively, allowing 35.8 points per game, and Fresno surrendered 50-plus to all three of its first opponents, all losses, against USC, Utah and Nebraska. Since that point, however, the defense has allowed just 21.7 points per game. Boise State gave FS a lot of trouble last week, though, amassing 492 yards and surrendering 37 points. Boise State also converted 9-of-19 third downs.
The Bulldogs were close early on tying the game on a 76 yard run, and it was tied up with nine-plus minutes to go before a Boise State TD pass. Boise State clinched it on a 54 yard run to win 37-27. It was a hard fought game for Fresno, but this oe against the Cowboys could be a stroll in the park, with college odds so heavily slanted in Fresno State’s favor.
