The Los Angeles Dodgers (30-42) and San Diego Padres (38-36) will continue a four-game National League West series Saturday night at Petco Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET on FOX.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres
Los Angeles has dropped seven of its last 10 games, including a 5-2 setback on the road to the San Diego Padres as -152 favorites Friday, while going OVER the betting total for the fifth time in six contests. The Dodgers are now 4-7 against the Padres and find themselves 9.5 games back of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West standings. “It’s not just the Padres this year,” commented Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. Los Angeles is 9-23 versus division foes, with the OVER going 21-9-2 in that situation.
Dodgers starting pitcher Zack Greinke (3-2, 4.22 ERA) will look to bounce back from a 6-3 road loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, as he allowed five runs and eight hits over five frames. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA in four road appearances, with opposing hitters batting .378 against him. In two career games versus the Padres, Greinke has tallied a 1-0 record and 3.27 ERA.
San Diego continues to be one of the hottest teams in baseball, as it moved two games above .500 for just the second time this season. The Padres are missing some key contributors from their lineup, including Yonder Alonso, Everth Cabrera, Jedd Gyorko and Cameron Maybin, but the clubhouse has really grown together in recent weeks. “This is a great opportunity for a number of guys,” stated Padres manager Bud Black. San Diego is 24-14 at home this season, with the OVER going 19-16-3 in those 38 opportunities.
Padres starting pitcher Edinson Volquez (5-5, 5.84 ERA) has led the club to back-to-back victories, including a no-decision effort in a 5-3 road win over the San Francisco Giants, as he allowed three runs and six hits over five frames. The right-hander is 3-3 with a 4.95 ERA in seven home appearances, surrendering four home runs in 40 combined frames. In six career games versus the Dodgers, Volquez has compiled a 2-2 record and 3.97 ERA.
Sports bettors will likely back the Padres due to their 5-0 record at home versus right-handed starters.
