The Los Angeles Clippers opened up their 2012-2013 NBA season with an impressive 101-92 win over the Memphis Grizzlies as four-point home favorites on Wednesday night, while going OVER the posted total of 187.5. The Clippers got a huge performance out of reserve guard Jamal Crawford, who scored 29 points off the bench. “I may be a little biased, but I think we’re the best bench in the NBA,” commented Crawford after the game. Los Angeles is 8-7 ATS in November the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 10-5 in that situation.
The Clippers have lost nine consecutive games against the Lakers when meeting up inside the Staples Center as the road team, including five losses since the start of the 2009 campaign. The team has been outscored by a significant 108.2 to 93.6 margin in those five contests. Defensively, the team held Memphis to just 38.4 percent shooting in the season opener, while winning the fourth quarter by a 28-15 margin.
The Los Angeles Lakers will be looking to avoid their worst start in 34 years and will likely have to play without the services of new point guard Steve Nash, who is listed as doubtful with a shin injury. The Lakers are being led offensively by guard Kobe Bryant and center Dwight Howard, as both All-Stars are averaging 26.0 points per game. In 60 career games (52 starts) in this series, Bryant has averaged 25.6 points. Los Angeles is 7-8 ATS in November the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 9-6 in that situation.
The Lakers have started out 0-3 only three times in franchise history, as they will need to improve on the defensive end to avoid such a mark. Los Angeles allowed Portland to shoot 50.6 percent from the field in a 116-106 setback as 2.5-point road favorites on Wednesday, while going OVER the total for the second time in as many tries this season. It’s important to note that the franchise won two of three regular-season meetings a year ago.
Sports bettors will likely back the Clippers due to their 9-4 ATS mark in the last 13 meetings, while the Lakers are 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games versus Western Conference opponents.
