The week 5 college football betting lines have seen some big swings. Major conference battles are set to take place in the SEC, Pac 10, Big 10 and Big 12. This should be a great Saturday of football. Check out our college football point spreads page to compare odds from some of the top sportsbooks in the industry. Here’s a quick look at some intriguing match-ups.
Oklahoma (-3 ½) vs. Texas – The Sooners opened as 2 point favorites for their annual Red River Shootout with Texas. Early money pushed the line to 4 or 4 ½ points, but there’s been some buy back in the past day or two. Neither Big 12 South powerhouse has lived up to expectations. Texas got rocked at home by UCLA, while Oklahoma has won 3 of its 4 games by a combined 12 points.
Wisconsin (-2) at Michigan State – After the Badgers opened as 2 ½ point road favorites, the line was bought down to 1 ½ points at most books. In recent days, the Badgers have had some buy back up to 2 points, and even 2 ½ at a few books. Both teams are looking to make a run at the Big 10 crown. The winner of this game takes an important step in that direction. The Badgers won last year’s meeting, 38-30.
Air Force (-10) vs. Navy – The home Falcons opened as 10 ½ point favorites, but some early action on the Midshipmen brought the line down to 9 points at most books. However, a couple days ago the line was bought back to 10 points, which is where it currently sits. If you like disciplined football and the triple option attack, this is the game for you. Navy won last year’s battle, 16-13 in overtime.
Alabama (-9) vs. Florida – This has been an interesting line. Alabama opened as a 9 point favorite. The line was pulled down as far 7 or 7 ½ points, and then some buy back on Alabama has brought it back up to 8 or 8 ½. The public was with the Gators earlier in the week, but then hopped onto the Crimson Tide in the latter part of the week. Alabama won last year’s meeting in the SEC Championship, 32-13.
Iowa (-7) vs. Penn State – The home Hawks opened as 4 ½ point favorites, but sharps and squares have steamed this up to anywhere between 7 and 7 ½ points. There’s been some slight buy back on Penn State, but not a lot. Two good defenses will be on the field. The total started at 40 and has gone up to 40 ½ points. The Hawkeyes won in Happy Valley last season, 21-10.
Miami (-3) at Clemson – Miami opened as a 3 point road favorite and the line has held mostly steady, although a couple books have moved to 3 ½ points. It’s never easy winning in Death Valley, but the Hurricanes have good road experience after playing at Pittsburgh and Ohio State. The Tigers won last year’s meeting in Miami, 40-37 in OT.
Oregon (-7) vs. Stanford – The home Ducks opened as 4 ½ point favorites, but early money moved the line to 7 points. In the past day, a couple books have moved as low as 6 ½ points. These two teams are known for their offenses, but they both have underrated defenses. It’s still early in the season, but this might determine which team represents the Pac 10 in the Rose Bowl. Stanford won last year at home, 51-42.
