Indy Colts 4-Point Underdogs

Sure they have an amazing offense, especially when going to the air. But they are going up against an equally dynamic defense– that of the Baltimore Ravens. Indy goes to the Ravens’ home turf as 4-point underdogs but they can certainly still win and this game won’t be over early (at least as far as Indianapolis is concerned.

A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER

The Colts have not been a very good playoff team, especially after the first round. But this year could be different due to the fact that they possess field goal great Adam Vinatieri, the best pressure kicker in the game. He’s no Mike Vanderjagt and that’s good news.

The Colts defense stepped up last week and will have to do it again. Can they? If they can, it will give the Indy offense a chance.

The Colts posses a lot of talent on offense that can score points very quickly.

That being said, here are some other things to consider.

Peyton Manning was terrible last week, throwing three picks. Eventually, the Colts had Manning throw and connect on the short pass. They also utilized the running game effectively. But they won’t get many second chances with this Raven “D.”

The Colts had a tough game last week and travel to Baltimore hurting a bit and tired. The Ravens are fresh, rested and ready to go.

Don’t underestimate the fact that Baltimore is at home and Indianapolis is not. The Colts’ indoor stadium filled to the brim with thousands of screaming fans gives them a decided advantage that they won’t get in Baltimore.

If the Colts fall behind early, it will be tough catching up; yet it won’t be impossible as long as Tony Dungee is able to adjust his game plan on the fly like he did last week.

Road woes have plagued the Colts as of late. Also, the Ravens are much tougher than Herm Edwards’ Chiefs.

What’s the weather like? Traditionally, the indoor ensconced Colts have found it difficult playing in cold, stormy weather.

Jammal Lewis– can the Ravens running back be stopped by a “D” that up until last week had a very difficult time versus the run?

Too many looks, especially from such a well honed defense as the Ravens, may confuse Manning. Manning is very good at changing his “D” around just prior to the snap, but if Baltimore can pull some stunts that confuse the QB, it could be a long day for Indy.

The good news for the Colts is that last week it appeared to be less about Manning winning and more about the team winning. If things aren’t going well and Manning can let his ego be subservient to the team winning the game, the Colts will have a good chance even if things don’t go their way at first.

This has the potential to be a close game and a great one. The 4-point spread looks tough to beat.
