The New York Giants (7-4) need to finish the season strong in order to make the playoffs, and the results of two meetings with the Washington Redskins (5-6) in the final five weeks will obviously play a major role. The first of two games between the Giants (-7) and Redskins takes place on Sunday with the race for the NFC East crown still yet to be decided.
A 24-20 home win for New York coupled with a 31-26 road loss for Philadelphia last week put both those teams back into a tie for the divisional lead. They will square off again in a couple weeks at New Meadowlands Stadium, which first will see a struggling Washington team visit.
The Redskins have lost three of their last four games both straight-up and against the spread, with the lone win (19-16) coming in overtime at Tennessee two weeks ago. They have actually won three of their last four road games, beating playoff contenders Chicago and Philly in the process. But Washington has also lost badly at Detroit and St. Louis this year, making the team one of the hardest in the league to predict.
In fact, the win over the Titans saw the Redskins win as 7-point underdogs, with all of their other games this season set with a spread of five points or less. Washington has scored 19 points or less in four of five road games, which has been good enough to yield three wins. The UNDER has cashed in three of the team’s last four games away from home.
The Giants rebounded from back-to-back losses by beating Jacksonville last week, although it was not easy. They trailed the Jaguars 17-6 at halftime but rallied back in the fourth quarter behind two touchdown passes from quarterback Eli Manning, who failed to throw an interception for the first time in three games. Manning had thrown five picks in the previous two games combined, and he has 16 overall this year to go along with his 23 touchdown passes.
New York has failed to cover its last three games with the total going OVER in five of the team’s last six games. The Giants have enjoyed a lot of success against the Redskins though, winning seven of the last eight meetings both SU & ATS. The OVER has cashed in the last two games between the teams after four straight UNDERS in the series.
