The Auburn Tigers aim for consecutive wins as double-digit road underdogs this Saturday

Auburn is set to play Arkansas for the 21st time and is coming off a 16-13 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks as 10.5-point road underdogs.  The Tigers own an 11-8-1 advantage in the series, with the squads splitting the last 10 meetings.  Auburn picked up a 65-43 win in last year’s meeting as 3.5-point home favorites, out-gaining Arkansas by just 96 yards.  The program has had an incredible ability of winning the close game under head coach Gene Chizik, posting a 9-0 record in games decided by four points or less, including a 5-0 mark versus SEC competition.  Auburn is 14-5 ATS versus conference opponents.

The Tigers aren’t afraid to play on the road, tallying a 9-4 record in such contests under Chizik’s direction.  Auburn has also tallied a 19-11 mark versus ranked competition since the start of the 2001 campaign.  Six of the school’s last eight wins have come against teams that were ranked or currently ranked.  Running back Michael Dyer might come into this contest a little worn out due to carrying the ball 41 times last week.  He had more rushing attempts than 74 out of 108 teams nationally.

Arkansas came back from an 18-point halftime deficit last week to come out of the Southwest Classic inside Cowboys Stadium with a 42-38 win as 2.5-point neutral-site underdogs.  The Razorbacks have started 4-1 for the second straight season and have won eight of their last 10 games dating back to last season.  Head coach Bobby Petrino loves coaching in front of the home fans, posting a 44-6 record in his career, while also leading his teams to a 19-9 mark in October.  Arkansas is 12-5 ATS versus conference opponents and the ‘over’ is 11-6 in that span.

The Razorbacks have been sensational in the fourth quarter, outscoring opponents by a 43-10 margin.  Arkansas is also a perfect 20-of-20 in the red zone, joining just four other teams that are still perfect inside the 20-yard line in scoring points.  Offensively, the team is led by the solid play of quarterback Tyler Wilson, who set a single-game passing record for the school with 510 yards last week.  He leads the SEC and ranks seventh in the NCAA with 1,517 passing yards, while his 64.5 percent completion percentage ranks third in the SEC and 38th in the country.  Throwing the ball has been the team’s strength under Petrino, going over 300 passing yards in 23 of 43 games.

Bettors will likely back the Razorbacks due to their 8-1 ATS mark as a favorite, while the Tigers are 1-4 ATS as a road underdog of 3.5 to 10 points.
