Yesterday, Florida State announced that defensive tackle Marcus Thomas was suspended indefinitely for his second violation of the school’s substance abuse policy. That means that number five Florida will be without their top pass rusher this weekend.
ESPN has reported that Coach Urban Meyer observed that, “[Marcus] is suspended. The whole situation is under review. It’s under evaluation, and I’ll comment when it’s appropriate. There’s no timetable. Nothing is set in stone.”
It’s uncertain how long the suspension will last. Thomas has 3 sacks this year and 13 sacks as a starter over three years. He’s also compiled 138 tackles.
It’s doubtful the suspension will have much affect on the Gators contest against Kentucky this weekend, where Florida is a 24-point favorite, but if, as rumors have indicated, he’s suspended for multiple games, it could create problems.
With Thomas suspended, the club will move DE Ray McDonald to tackle and put sophomore Derrick Harvey into the starting lineup.
