I’m going to d a much more in-depth look back at the game, the season, and what I have learned this year over the coming week, but I want to quickly put down a few initial thoughts from the Super Bowl:
1. I don’t get the talk about this being the best Super Bowl ever. It certainly had some good moments, and it ended well, but it had large periods of disinterest, too. It was certainly better than some games have been, but it doesn’t come anywhere near the realm of epic games in my book. Come to think of it, the Super Bowl and epic aren’t necessarily friendly words.
2. I hope I am wrong, but Kurt Warner did not sound like a guy who had a long career ahead of him in his post-game interview. I’d love to see him come back again, and I obviously think he still has a lot to offer, but I would totally understand if he packed it in now. Especially if he is going to have to go to a different team again. I feel bad for the guy – the three biggest passing performances in Super Bowl history, and just one Super Bowl.
3. Someone needs to tell the referees that they don’t need to try to be the stars of the game. A good official is an invisible one, and that certainly wasn’t the case here.
4. I know I’ll miss it in a couple of weeks, and it will be torture by the middle of the summer, but for now I am feeling pretty good that the football season is over. The season was solid, the playoffs were very good, and the drama was everywhere as always, but it has been a long season. Baseball will be a nice change of pace to recharge and get ready for the next glorious football season.
5. Oh, who am I kidding – I miss football already. And, no – the Pro Bowl isn’t going to give me a needed fix.
You make some good points – I pointed out the review on the final play, and the porn on the Arizona affiliate, but my post didn’t go up. Some times these posts don’t get up for some reason?!?
