Utah has won eight of the last 11 meetings with BYU, including a 24-21 victory as 3.5-point home underdogs last year, while going OVER the betting total of 44.5. The Utes are 5-3 against the Cougars under head coach Kyle Whittingham, which can’t be ignored when making your college football predictions in Week 4. Saturday’s game is the school’s first road game of the season after three consecutive home games. Utah is 4-4 SU and 5-3 ATS as underdogs of 3.5 to 10 points over the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 5-2-1 in that situation.
The Utes are 13-6 all-time in games televised on ESPN2, which is important to consider when looking over the NCAA football betting lines. Utah was led offensively by the play of quarterback Travis Wilson, who passed for 279 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for a career-high142 yards and three touchdowns in a 51-48 overtime loss to Oregon State last week. The program is 83-132-6 all-time against Pac-12 Conference schools.
BYU comes off a bye week after splitting its first two games, as it picked up a 40-21 victory over the Texas Longhorns as seven-point home underdogs Sept. 7—winning the statistical battle by 234 yards. The Cougars were led by signal-caller Taysom Hill offensively, as he ran for a career-high 259 yards, while Jamaal Williams contributed 182 yards on the ground. It served as the team’s first win over a ranked opponent since 2009. BYU is 3-3 SU and 1-5 ATS as favorites of 3.5 to 10 points since 2011, with the OVER going 3-2-1 in that situation.
The Cougars also possess one of the better wide receivers in the country, with Cody Hoffman leading all players with 28 receiving touchdowns. He enters this week needing 17 receptions, 474 yards and three touchdowns to take over the top spot among the all-time leaders within the program. The new offensive staff for the team includes Robert Anae returning as offensive coordinator for a second go-around after a two-year stint with the Arizona Wildcats.
Sports bettors will likely back the Utes due to the underdog being 13-3 ATS in the last 16 meetings in this series.
