The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 2-2-1 ATS as road favorites of 7.5 to 10 points since 2011

Georgia Tech hits the road for the final time during ACC play Saturday, as it comes off a 56-0 victory over the Syracuse Orange as eight-point home favorites in Week 8, while going OVER the betting total for a third consecutive contest.  The Yellow Jackets rank seventh nationally in converting 54 percent of their third-down opportunities, but they’ll be tested in going against a Cavaliers unit that leads the nation in third-down defense.  Both of these teams rank in the top five nationally in time of possession, which is important to consider when looking over the college football odds page.  Georgia Tech is 4-1 SU and 2-2-1 ATS as road favorites of 7.5 to 10 points since 2010.

The Yellow Jackets’ three losses this season are to teams that are a combined 17-3, with two of those programs currently ranked in the top 20 in national polls.  Georgia Tech has won three of the last four meetings in this series, including a 56-20 win in Atlanta in 2012.  Since 1992, the program is just 1-9 in Charlottesville, with the only win coming in 2009.  Offensively, the team is led by quarterback Vad Lee and running back David Sims, as both are instrumental in the running game.

Virginia has dropped four games in a row, including a 35-22 defeat to the Duke Blue Devils as 2.5-point home favorites last Saturday, while going OVER the betting total for a third consecutive contest.  The Cavaliers own a 45-41-2 all-time record when celebrating Homecoming weekend, including an even 1-1 mark when hosting the Yellow Jackets.  The team has collected at least one turnover in every game in this series since 2001—totaling 19 over that span.  Virginia is 1-8 SU and 3-6 ATS as underdogs of 3.5 to 10 points the last two-plus seasons.

The Cavaliers have a youthful roster, with just eight seniors on the roster, which is the second-fewest in college football during the 2013 campaign.  Virginia is one of four FBS programs that entered the 2013 season without any quarterback on its roster that played at all in 2012.  It’s important to point out that the school has eight home games on the schedule for the first time in its history.

Sports bettors will likely back the Cavaliers due to the home team being 12-3 ATS in the last 15 meetings in this series.
