The California Golden Bears are 0-2 ATS as road underdogs of three or fewer points since 2010

California looks to rebound from last Saturday’s loss to the Stanford Cardinal, as the program looks to win its third game in four weeks.  The Golden Bears have allowed 18.3 points per game over the last three contests after giving up 30.2 in their last five.  Quarterback Zach Maynard has completed 145-of-235 passes for 1,751 yards this season, while throwing 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions.  California is 0-2 ATS as a road underdog of three or fewer points over the last two-plus seasons.

The Golden Bears have a talented trio of running backs, as the group has combined for 1,210 yards on the ground through the first eight games of the regular season.  California ranks fifth in the Pac-12 in that particular category, as the program has had nine 1,000-yard rushers in the last 10 campaigns.  Winning the turnover battle is paramount in this contest, as the Golden Bears are 46-9 when committing fewer miscues than opponents during the Jeff Tedford era.

Utah has fallen on hard times in its second season in the Pac-12, as it looks to snap a four-game losing streak, which includes a 21-7 setback to the Oregon State Beavers as 10-point road underdogs.  The Utes will be playing their fifth-annual blackout game on Saturday, which has led them to a 3-1 record in that situation.  Head coach Kyle Whittingham is 1-1 in this series, with the victory coming in the 2009 Poinsettia Bowl, while suffering a 34-10 loss as two-points road underdogs last year.  Utah is 2-0 ATS as a home favorite of seven or fewer points.

The Utes have a tall mountain to climb in hopes of playing in a bowl game, as they’ll need to win four of their final five contests.  Utah leads the nation with 13 forced fumbles, while its defense sits 22nd in stopping the run, allowing 113.86 yards per game.  Getting off to a quicker start is key in hopes of ending its losing streak, as the program has been outscored by a 62-28 margin in the opening frame this year.

Sports bettors will likely back the Utes due to their 6-1 ATS mark following a straight-up loss, while the Golden Bears are 4-9 ATS on the road.
