MICHIGAN

Last week, the Wolverines ran into the now-No.1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The loss dropped the Wolverines to 19th on the AP poll, but they’ll look to regroup against a Navy team that college football oddsmakers have set as a a heavy underdog, with Michigan coming in as 21.5 point favorites.

Heisman candidate Denard Robinson had his fair share of struggles, despite scoring both Wolverines’ TDs. He had 200 yards passing, but was just 11 of 26, and most of his passing yardage came on a 71 yard pass and a 44 yard pass to Devin Gardner in the third quarter.

“I didn’t make the throws that I should have made today…” Robinson resigned himself.

He also had only 27 yards rushing on 10 carries and he suffered an injury, but walked off the field and appeared to be OK.

Robinson’s shoulder remains a concern.

Fitzgerald Toussaint will return after a suspension, and should solve some of the problems at RB, where the Wolverines ran for only 69 yards last game.

AIR FORCE

The Air Force won big 49-21 over Idaho State, in a game which featured Cody Getz rushing for 218 yards and three TDs, while Connor Dietz rushed for 74 yards and threw for 142 yards. The Falcons came up with 490 yards rushing the ball, and 628 total yards.

Getz and Dietz appeared to be more than ready to replace last year’s RB Asher Clark and QB Tim Jefferson. AF coach Troy Calhoun called it “no surprise,” stating that Dietz has been in the program for a while and (has) a “nice grasp of what we’re doing offensively.”

Getz became the first AF player to rush for more than 200 yards since 2007. It comes after only recording 102 yards in 2011, a figure he had topped by half time of last week’s game. The main reason for the improvement, however, may lie in the blocking. Getz said “The way the line and receivers were blocking, I really don’t think I was touched.”

With that kind of blocking, Getz could run his way to a huge season. Will it happen this week against Michigan? Doubtful, but if it does, the Falcons may at least cover the 21.5 college football spread.
