Connecticut is a 3 point favorite against Colorado in the South region first round Thursday.

One week ago, the Connecticut Huskies were firmly on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. The winner between UConn and Colorado will face either #1 Kansas or #16 Austin Peay in the second round Saturday. This is the first ever meeting between Colorado and Connecticut.

UConn is coached by Kevin Ollie. The Huskies finished sixth in the AAC but were the #5 seed in the tournament because SMU wasn’t eligible to compete. The Huskies opened an unlikely run to the championship with a thrilling 104-97 quadruple overtime win over Cincinnati in the quarterfinals that featured a game tying three point buzzer beater by the Huskies from beyond half court at the end of the third overtime. UConn is 4-0 ATS in non-conference games and overall, 15-3 in NCAA tournament games, 36-15-1 in neutral site games, and 2-5 against Pac 12 teams.

Colorado is 5-0 ATS overall, 4-0 after a cover, 4-1 in non-conference games, against teams with winning records, and in neutral site games, 2-5 in Thursday games and 1-4 in NCAA tournament games.

In 2011 and 2014, UConn was on the bubble to even make the field of the NCAA tournament. The Huskies would win the conference tournament in those seasons and went on to win nationals titles in both those season. Husky fans hope history repeats itself in 2016. However, they can’t overlook a dangerous Colorado team that thrives on three point shooting and rebounding. I think the Huskies win a close game.
