Wisconsin is off to an 8-0 start for the first time since 1993-94, as it comes off a 70-63 victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers as 6.5-point neutral-site favorites last Wednesday, while going UNDER the betting total for a third consecutive contest. The Badgers are averaging 76.8 points per game, which is up from 65.0 a year ago and can’t be ignored when looking over the college basketball lines page. The program is the only one in the Big Ten Conference to have five players averaging in double figures. Wisconsin is 12-2 ATS in its last 14 games versus ACC opponents.
The Badgers will be seeking revenge from a 60-54 setback to the Cavaliers as 10-point home favorites a season ago, as they were outrebounded by a 36-18 margin in that affair. Wisconsin has played in each of the previous 14 Big Ten/ACC Challenges—posting a 6-8 record in the event. Offensively, the team is 15th in the nation and tops the Big Ten in shooting 43.6 percent from beyond the arc, which is far better than its 33 percent mark a season ago.
Virginia has compiled a 50-19 record against non-conference opponents under the direction of head coach Tony Bennett, while the program has gone 8-5 since the start of this special event. The Cavaliers are receiving votes in the latest AP and USA Today Coaches polls, while they’ve gone 7-14 against ranked opponents under their current coaching staff. The team has three players averaging double figures, with senior guard Joe Harris leading the way in scoring 12.4 points a contest. Virginia is 3-9 ATS in its last 12 games overall.
The Cavaliers have made eight or more 3-pointers in each of their last four games—shooting 51.4 percent from downtown in that span. Harris ranks 24th on Virginia’s all-time scoring list with 1,354 points, while Akil Mitchell has grabbed 561 career rebounds. As of Monday, the school ranks in the top nine nationally in seven defensive categories, while it has held all eight of its opponents below 50 percent shooting from the floor.
Sports bettors will likely back the Badgers due to the Cavaliers being 2-7 ATS in their last nine games versus a team with a winning record.
