The 18-12 Florida State Seminoles take on the 7-24 Boston College Eagles in the first round of the ACC Tournament Tuesday in Washington. The Seminoles tied with Georgia Tech at 8-10, but the Yellow Jackets won the tie breaker and a bye to the second round Wednesday. Boston College went 0-18 in conference and became the first team in Division 1 history to go winless in conference in both football and men’s basketball in the same season ever. The winner between Florida State and Boston College will play #6 seed Virginia Tech in the second round tomorrow night.
Florida State leads the series 8-5 against Boston College, and the Seminoles have won four straight games against the Eagles. This is the first ever meeting between the teams in the ACC Tournament. Florida State won the only meeting this season 72-62 on the road January 26.
Boston College is coached by Jim Christian. The Eagles have home wins over Harvard, Maine, Delaware, and New Hampshire, along with a road win at Fordham. The Seminoles have neutral site wins over DePaul and Ohio in the Virgin Islands, VCU in Atlanta, and Florida Atlantic in Miami, plus road wins over Florida, North Carolina State, Boston College, and Wake Forest. FSU has home wins over Mississippi State, Virginia, Clemson, North Carolina State, Notre Dame and Syracuse 78-73 Saturday. The Seminoles have won two straight games after a five game winning streak. FSU has a neutral site loss to Hofstra in the Virgin Islands, plus road losses at Iowa, Clemson, Miami, Louisville, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Duke. The Seminoles have home losses to North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Miami and Georgia Tech. Florida State is 11-14-1 ATS and the total is 14-12 this season. The Seminoles were 4 point favorites against Syracuse and the total is 143.5.

Strange things happen in March. It is possible Boston College could pull off the upset, but it isn’t very likely. The Eagles are not a good basketball team. Florida State isn’t even a lock for the NIT and likely needs a win or two in the ACC Tournament to lock in that bid. I think the Seminoles win in a blowout.
