CFB- Top Quarterbacks Who Can Make a Teams Season

The fact is that many NCAA football teams, like Notre Dame, Florida and Ohio State, have QB questions, having lost their top performing signal callers to the NFL and/or graduation.

Here are three teams with returning masters of the pigskin who may just be the key to their team’s success in 2007.

Colt Brennan (Hawaii Warriors) led the top-rated passing game in the nation. Brennan, now a senior, completed an astounding 72.6% of his throws for 5,549 yards and 58 touchdowns. He threw only 12 interceptions! Those are phenomenal stats. Brennan has poise, athleticism and intelligence. The o-line, despite returning only two starters has talent and plenty of guys who played last season. His receivers are deep and include two 1,000-yard guys with great hands—Davone Bess (a junior) and Jason Rivers (a senior). Colt Brennan, along with having a great quarterback name, may be just the ticket to help the Warriors beat the Boise State Broncos, take first-place in the WAC and go to a BCS Bowl. Then again, there is the problem with the team’s defense. They have to come through too.

Chad Henne (Michigan Wolverines) is a senior who can run the play-action with ease. Again, he’s smart, athletic and experienced. Henne completed 60% of his passes last season for 2,508 yards and 22 touchdowns. He tossed only 8 interceptions. He’s got a great group of receivers, including junior Mario Manningham (38 REC, 703 YDs, 18.5 AVG, 9 TDs) and senior Adrian Arrington (40 REC, 544 YDs, 13.6 AVG, 8 TDs). He got a fine offensive line and a great running back in Mike Hart (1,562 yards, 14 TDs), which will allow Michigan to establish the running game and then run the play-action. The defense needs to be more consistent. A Big 10 championship could be won and a BSC Bowl bid.

Matt Ryan (Boston College Eagles) proved to be tough last season, playing with a broken left foot in his final seven games. Ryan completed 58.3% of his passes for 2,942 yards and 15 touchdowns. He threw 10 interceptions. The guy handles pressure and pain well and is smart and extremely knowledgeable regarding the team’s playbook. His receivers are deep and include two fine seniors in L.V. Whitworth and Andre Callender. The offensive line is without key players and some new guys have to step up. BC’s defense was good last season but weak at safety. Someone has to come through in that area. An ACC title is possible. A BCS invite could be in the offing.

These QBs can make a major difference this year, winning big in blowouts and eking out victories in close games.

  1. Hi Robert,

I have been to your site before. It’s really a fine one! I think your QB ratings are right on. I went with the three QBs that I did because they play for teams that they did not quite get to the premiere bowl events or, in Michigan’s case, lost in one of the premiere events. But I agree with you regarding Brohm and the others. I appreciate the feedback too.I can’t believe that the season is almost here, but I’m glad that it is too!
