I mean John David Booty—do you like him? The best QB in the QB-rich PAC-10? Probably. Heisman Trophy winner? Quite possibly. The ability to lead USC to a national championship? He has it.Booty has a few things going for him. There’s the obvious stuff, such as his 61.7% completion rate, 29 touchdowns to nine interceptions ratio and 3, 347 yards passing. Not a bad 2006 season, huh?

The guy is a calm and confident leader with a strong and accurate arm and great decision-making skills.

Oh, you say—but he’s lost quality receivers such as Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith. But USC gathers top-notch receivers every year.

Booty is coached by one of the best in the business—Pete Carroll (65- 12 in six years). It doesn’t hurt that USC also possesses one of the finest “D� coordinators in the game—Nick Holt, who is back for his second season at that position. He’ll keep USC in the game, or maybe you could say other clubs out of it.

I like Booty’s chances. Partly because of what he brings to the field, partly because of the great coaching staff and partly due to the talent that surrounds him.
