The NBA trade deadline has come and gone and none of the big ones came through. Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Mike Bibby and Pau Gasol and others all stay put. And that means that the NBA landscape will stay the same.
New Jersey is going nowhere this season but they weren’t going anywhere no matter what they did. However, the right trade could have helped them out in the long run—next year. The Lakers will be playoff bound but without the addition of another star guard it’s doubtful they will go very far. The Sacramento Kings continue to struggle and Bibby will continue to be a malcontent and the Grizzlies will sputter along with Gasol, who wants to get out of town.
Allen Iverson going to the seventh seed Nuggets was the biggest deal of the season. With less than thirty games remaining in the regular season, the post-season mold is just about set. By the way, much of next season is set also. Because of huge, long-term contract commitments, there just isn’t a whole lot of wiggle room in the NBA for a team to change drastically.
What does all of this mean? I sure am glad there’s college basketball where anything and everything can happen!
