Texas looks to secure a 20-win season for the 13th consecutive year and will attempt to gain revenge from an earlier 69-66 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks as 3.5-point home underdogs on Jan. 21. The Longhorns will look to get junior guard J’Covan Brown going, averaging 23.0 points in four career meetings versus the Jayhawks. He is the team’s leading scorer in averaging 19.6 points per game. Eight of the program’s 11 losses this season have come by six points or less. Texas is 5-12 ATS versus conference opponents and the “over” is 10-7 in those contests.
The Longhorns will be meeting the Jayhawks for the 27th time in this series, posting a 7-19 overall record, which includes a dismal 1-9 mark when playing in Lawrence. Texas needs to get after it on the defensive end to pull off the major upset, holding opponents to 59.2 points per game in its nine Big 12 Conference wins this season. In its eight league losses, the Longhorns have allowed an average of 78.0 points per game on 47.7 percent shooting.
Kansas enters on a seven-game win streak and will look to win its 29th-straight regular-season home finale inside Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks will be honoring their seniors before the game, with senior guard Tyshawn Taylor being the biggest name of the group. He has tallied a 68-3 record in home games during this career, but the only loss in tonight’s venue came to Texas. The program averages 74.9 points per game and allows 61.1, which comes out to a +13.8 scoring margin that ranks second in the conference. Kansas is 9-7 ATS versus conference opponents this year.
The Jayhawks are led by national player of the year candidate Thomas Robinson, who is the only player in the Big 12 to average a double-double with 17.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. Kansas leads the conference in limiting opponents to 38.2 percent shooting, while leading all members with a rebounding margin of +6.3. The program’s current 21-game home court winning streak is tied for the fourth longest nationally.
Bettors will likely back the Jayhawks due to their 36-17-1 ATS mark as a home favorite of 7.0 to 12.5 points, while the Longhorns are 5-12 ATS following a straight-up win.
