Chris Bosh scored 44 points and 12 rebounds in Milwaukee last night. No other starter had more than 13 points, and the Raptors lost to the Bucks by six. Note to the Raptors – hanging your best player out to dry like that is not a very good way to get said best player to stick around once he becomes a free agent.
Duke got absolutely smoked at NC State on Wednesday night – they lost by 14. The sixth ranked team in the country really shouldn’t lose to an unranked team like that regardless of where they are playing. It makes me really quite happy when Duke loses. Actually, it makes me giddy.
UConn got a nice win last night, and they played better than they have in a while. You have to wonder whether whatever is going on with Jim Calhoun was a distraction and a contributing factor to their recent slump. Of course, it also doesn’t hurt that they were only playing St. John’s.
I only saw the highlights of North Carolina’s game last night, but that was enough to see Roy Williams look like he was about to melt down. They lost at home to Wake Forest by 13. That really shouldn’t be happening to the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill. Of the six biggest losses the team has had since Williams took over, three have happened since November 19. It’s getting very hard to consider this team relevant this year. That won’t last, of course.
My beloved Wolverines almost pulled off a win at Wisconsin last night – something that an unranked team hasn’t done in 57 games now. They led for 36 minutes, but then couldn’t close it out in the end. That’s pretty much the story for this season. Michigan can do some things well, but when we don’t have a real point guard, and we only have two and a half high level players (Sims and Harris are the two, and Novak is the half) it’s pretty much inevitable. On top of the last couple rough football seasons I’m not sure that I could describe how frustrating and painful this season has been.
The Thunder are 11-4 in their last 15 games, and 6-2 over that stretch on the road. It’s getting harder and harder not to take this team seriously. The only cause for hesitation is that at least five of the wins have come against very lousy teams. On the plus side, only one of the losses was to a lousy team – Milwaukee – and that was an overtime road loss. I’d still have to bet against them making the playoffs this year, but I wouldn’t bet much on it.
