Basketball, Basketball, and More Basketball

LeBron James is gong to get a title this year if he has to win it single-handedly. His efforts in the fourth quarter tonight couldn’t have been any more impressive. The pesky Bulls were tied heading into the fourth quarter, and they were causing real problems for the Cavs. They were only up by three points seven minutes later when LeBron took over. He amassed 15 points in the next six minutes to give his team the lead for good and to remind the Bulls who is boss. It was an impressive spectacle, though not a surprising one given what he is capable of. Also impressive in the game was Joakim Noah. He sounded ridiculous before the game talking trash about Cleveland, but he really backed it up with his play – 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Mehmet Okur is out with a ruptured Achilles, and Andrei Kirilenko is sidelined as well, yet somehow the Jazz managed to beat the hot and impressive Nuggets in Denver. I’ll be honest and say I certainly didn’t see that one coming. All of the credit for the win goes to Deron Williams – a guy who gets more impressive with every outing. He had 33 points, and added 14 assists in a performance that was too dynamic and overwhelming to properly explain. He outplayed Chauncey Billups in a big way, and that was all the difference.

Though I hate absolutely everything about Duke, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Kyle Singler has decided to return for his senior year. Singler was a cinch to go in the top 20, and could have snuck into the lottery, so it’s a good example for him to set to decide to return to college for another year. It’s great for the sport of college basketball, even if it isn’t a good business decision for Singler.
