CLEM
Clemson has been downright dominant this season and at this point is a highly probable pick to make it in the four-team BCS playoffs. The Tigers have earned it with an offense that generates 44.2 points per game while its defense does its job, too, holding opponents to just 11.7 per. The Tigers have a 6th-ranked rush offense that amasses 272.4 yards per game, while it still possesses a 33rd ranked pass offense that accumulates 273.0 yards per contest.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence has been great this season. He has 2,207 yards with a 66.2 percent passing ratio while having passed for 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He has been sacked a mere five times all year for only 40 yards loss, and his passer rating is 164.1. He has spread the wealth out with his receivers. Clemson has seven players topping 100 yards on the season, led by Tee Higgins. Higgins has 32 catches (no. 2) for 662 yards and four touchdowns (Tied-2nd).
Clemson running back Travis Etienne has been a multidimensional beast this season in his own right. Etienne has 1,102 rushing yards while amazingly nearly averaging a first down (9.0 yards-per-carry). He has 11 touchdowns this season and the Tigers have tallied 27 as a team. No. 2 back Lyn-J Dixon has rushed 67 times for 427 yards, 6.4 yards-per-carry, and four touchdowns. Etienne also functions well as a receiver, ranking No. 5 on the team in yardage (184) on his 19 catches. He also has one receiving touchdown this season.
NC ST
The NC State Wolfpack is 4-4 this season, but it is just 1-3 in ACC play this season. It is coming off consecutive losses to Boston College and last week No. 23 Wake Forest. The Wolfpack have lost four of its last six overall.
NC State has been a fair offensive team, and a fair defensive team, at the cost of being redundant. It averages 24.9 points per game while giving up 25.1 per. The pass offense ranks No. 54 with 244.5 yards per game, but the Wolfpack is not a good rushing team, ranking just No. 84 at 149.3 per game.
The Wolfpack has experimented with three different quarterbacks this season, but none have had outstanding success. Collectively, the trio has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards, but they average just 53.2 percent completions and have thrown six picks while having suffered 13 sacks collectively. The receiving core has helped to bail them out, with three talented wideouts and tight end Cary Angeline all doing a tremendous job with the oscillating door at QB.
Emeka Emezie is No. 1 in catches (39), yardage (410), but he has just one touchdown. Angeline has four of the team’s 10 receiving touchdowns, while NC State has scored its other 11 TDs via the rush.
Kicker Christopher Dunn has been great: He is 22 of 22 on PATs and 15 of 18 on field goals, with two of his three misses coming from beyond midfield.
