The UCLA Bruins opened its season with a Week 1 loss on the road to Cincinnati, falling 14-24. The Bruins host San Diego State in Week 2 as 7.5-point favorites according to college football oddsmakers at 5dimes. The game will have an over/under of 45.5 points and will kick off 3:15 PM CST Saturday on the Pac 12 Network.
UCLA
UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson struggled badly in the opener. He threw just 8 of 26 for completion while throwing two interceptions to match his two touchdown passes. He was equally bad on foot, rushing 10 times for a total loss of 20 yards. Demetric Felton rushed 23 times for 71 yards, but UCLA averaged just 1.7 yards-per-carry and did not rush for a touchdown.
Felton was also the top receiving option with two catches for 91 yards including one of the two UCLA passing TDs. The Bruins were bad defensively, giving up 242 passing yards and 175 rushing yards. Though Cincy averaged just 3.6 yards-per-carry, it was consistent and rushed for a TD to add to the two passing TDs thrown by Desmond Ridder.
SDSU
San Diego State won its week 1 matchup 6-0 over Weber. It held Weber to just 119 passing yards and just 35 rushing yards. San Diego was marginally more successful, with 108 passing yards and 130 rushing yards. Juwan Washington rushed a team-high 22 times for 55 yards, but he did not score a TD nor did any Aztec.
Washington caught three passes for another 14 yards, and Jesse Matthews and Elijah Kothe each caught three passes for 49 yards combined. Kicker Matt Araiza hit both field goals with the longer of the two being a 34-yard field goal.
