The South Florida Bulls hosted then-No. 19 Wisconsin in Week 1, and things could have gone better. The Bulls were shutout, losing 0-49 in a disappointing opener against a tough Big Ten nonconference foe. This week it travels to face the ACC’s own Georgia Tech, and the Yellow Jackets are 6.5-point favorites on its home field. The over/under is set at 62 points, and the game will kick-off 1 PM CST Saturday on the ACC Network.
SOUTH FLA (0-1)
South Florida did not have a lot go its way in the Week 1 debacle. Blake Barnett threw just 13 of 30 for completion, en route to 109 total passing yards and zero TDs with two interceptions. Barnett and his receiving core averaged just 3.6 yards-per-pass, and the South Florida rush game was even more ineffective.
South Florida rushed 23 times for just 26 yards, with Jordan McCloud picking up a team-high 17 yards on three carries (one long rush of 19 yards plus two others for a negative-2 loss). Wisconsin meanwhile threw for 201 yards and rushed for another 234, picking up 5.4 yards-per-carry. So South Florida was headily outclassed on both ends of the football, but it will search for redemption against a weaker Georgia Tech team in Week 2.
GA TECH (0-1)
Georgia Tech lost its week 1 matchup 14-52 against no. 1 ranked Clemson. There was obviously literally no tougher way to begin its season than colliding against the Tigers, but Georgia Tech did have some positives to take away from the lopsided loss. The Tech passers threw 7 of 18 for 137 yards and the Yellow Jackets picked up 157 rushing yards on 45 carries (3.5 yards-per-rush). Tobias Oliver threw three completions for 65 yards and was No. 2 in rushing yards with 56 on 20 attempts including a long-rush of 39-yards.
Jordan Mason picked up 72 yards on 13 carries and also scored the only rushing TD. The Yellow Jackets are going to run a similar look much of this season, and the freshman Graham should be a significant passer when that aspect does pick up. He redshirted is true freshman season in 2018 when he attempted just one pass on the season, but the Yellow Jackets are ready to hand Graham a big role along with Oliver as a 1-2 punch at the QB position where both are capable of rushing the football. Graham picked up 15 yards on his four attempts, but he had a long-rush of 10 yards.
