MISSOURI

Missouri lost a tough one to Wyoming in Week 1. It got 423 passing yards from Kelly Bryant on 31 of 48 passing, but he threw one interception to his two touchdowns. The trio of Bryant, Larry Roundtree III, and Tyler Badie rushed for 114 yards on 42 carries, though none had great effectiveness averaging just 2.7 yards-per-rush. Five Missouri receivers had 60-yards or more receiving in the game, but only Jonathan Nance’s two touchdowns on three catches represented the Missouri receiving scoring. The backfield rushed for two touchdowns.

The defense was especially poor covering the Wyoming rush though. It allowed 7.1 yards-per-carry as quarterback Sean Chambers and Xazavian Valladay each rushed for 120 and 118 yards, respectively, with a TD to each of their credit. Chambers threw just 16 passes and completed six, but those 92 yards were only part of the story as Wyoming controlled the game with its ground effort. Chambers had a long rush of 75-yards and Valladay had a 61-yard rush, so Missouri did a poor job of preventing short gains and also gave up big plays.

WEST VA

West Virginia got 260 passing yards and two TDs on 27 of 42 passing from Austin Kendall in Week 1. The backfield was ineffective, averaging just 1.4 yards-per-attempt with Martell Pettaway leading the way just just 20 yards on his nine carries. Kennedy McCoy picked up 11 yards on 11 carries. Kendall rushed three times for no gain overall.

Tevin Bush, TJ Simmons, and Sam James combined to catch 15 passes for a total of 164 yards between them, and Bush had a TD catch in the game. Josh Chandler was a standout for the defense with 14 total tackles including nine solo tackles. West Virginia did pick up four sacks in the game and had six tackles for loss. West Virginia also limited James Madison to 156 passing yards with a pick and no TDs while it averaged just 3.6 yards-per-carry on its 48 attempts. Overall, the Mountaineers effort was good but it will have to be a much better team to prevail as two-TD underdogs against Missouri in Week 2.
