The Washington State Cougars have won its past two games over Utah and Oregon State, and in Week 8 it will host the Oregon Ducks as 3-point favorites at 6:30 PM (CT) on FOX. Washington State is ranked No. 25 and Oregon is No. 12, entering this week. The over/under is set at 69 points by college football oddsmakers for what promises to be an exciting high scoring affair.

Washington State boasts the nation’s no. 15 offense at 41.8 points per game. Its defense holds opponents to 23.8, which is good for a tie-No. 48 in the nation. The Cougars get it done almost exclusively with the pass. It ranks No. 1 in the nation at 413.7 passing yards per game, but its rush attack musters just 71.8, which is near the bottom of all FBS teams at No. 128.

Cougars quarterback Gardner Minshew has been explosive and very good. He has 2,422 yards on the season at a 68 percent clip with 19 TD passes and just four interceptions. His passer rating is 151.2, and he has rushed 27 times for 44 yards (1.6 per-carry) with two rushing TDs. James Williams and Max Borghi have just 260 and 147 yards respectively on the season, but the pair of running backs has each managed five rushing TDs. The Cougars have 20 reception TDs, though, paced by Davontavean Martin’s 440 receiving yards and six TDs. Easop Winston has another 426 yards and five TDs. The Cougars have five receivers with 20 or more catches on the year, and it averages 11.2 yards per reception. It is just a dangerous team airing it out, and the primary reason the betting total ranges up to 69 points by oddsmakers this week.

OREGON

Oregon is 5-1 with its lone loss a 31-38 heartbreaker to then-No. 7 Stanford. The Ducks are 2-1 in Pac-12 play, and it ranks No. 11 in the nation in offense at 43.0 points per game. Its defense has been strong in holding opponents to just 24.8 points, good for a point differential of plus-18.2 points. The pass offense and rush offense both rank No. 31 in the nation, as the Ducks have a balanced attack centered around the play of Justin Herbert and backfield performers CJ Verdell and Travis Dye. Herbert has thrown for 1,613 yards and 17 TDs with five interceptions, but he has also rushed for 106 yards on 38 carries with a rushing TD.

Verdell has 531 yards and four touchdowns and Dye is good for 320 yards and two TDs on the season. Oregon’s top receiver has been Dillion Mitchell. He leads the team in total receptions (35), yardage (561) and is second on the team with three receiving TDs. Jaylon Redd and Johnny Johnson both have 12 and 10 catches, respectively, but each has caught four touchdowns. The Ducks have 17 receiving TDs on the year and 16 via the rush, displaying its versatile and balanced offense. Expect Oregon to prevail as slight underdogs, as Washington State will have its hands full with Mitchell especially, who has proven unstoppable in any sort of man coverage.
