Week 2 College Football Showdown: Georgia Bulldogs at South Carolina Gamecocks

Long gone is mega star Todd Gurley, but UGA keeps truckin’ in his blazed path.

Georgia at South Carolina
Time: 2:30 PM CT
Spread: UGA -10
Total: 56

The No. 3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs ran over Austin Peay in Week 1, defeating the lowly Governors 45-0 in a game that did more for Austin Peay’s budget than it did for any viewers.

Week 2 will see a much tougher opponent, as Georgia travels to Charleston to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in a game that could be much closer than the 10-point spread set by NCAA football oddsmakers at 5dimes. It will air at 2:30 (CT), with an over/under on the score set at 56 points by 5dimes.

UGA

Georgia has been a standing powerhouse, but encountering the No. 24 ranked Gamecocks in their own house will not be an easy task. Jake Fromm and Justin Fields both looked good at QB in Week 1, with the pair combining to throw 19 of 24 (76 percent) for 220 total passing yards. Matthew Downing stepped in to throw 2 of 3 from the pocket for four yards, too. The Georgia rushing attack wrecked its devastation, too, as the Bulldogs averaged 8.6 yards per carry on 33 attempts.

Demetrius Robertson led the way with 72 yards on a single TD-carry, while James Cook was good for 66 yards on six attempts. D’Andre Swift added another 43 yards and a TD on eight attempts. Georgia should have a well-balanced attack to put up points this year, which will be a winning-formula considering how devastating its defense is. The Austin Peay Governors did complete 13 of 21 passes but averaged just 2.1 yards per attempt, and its 29 rushing attempts were mostly thwarted, resulting in a 3.1 yard per carry average, and zero touchdowns. South Carolina will present a much more formidable challenger here in Week 2.

SC

South Carolina began its season with a 49-15 victory over Coastal Carolina, again not much of a challenge for an AP ranked team. The Gamecocks jumped out to a 28-3 halftime lead and ever really looked back, despite allowing 12 points to the Chanticleers in the second half. Jake Bentley looked great in throwing 22 of 29 for 250 yards and four Touchdowns, while Rico Dowdle and Ty’Son Williams combined for 187 yards and two TDs between them from the backfield. The Gamecocks also had three receivers with 50-plus yards receiving in the game, paced by Shi Smith’s 61 yards on four catches.

Deebo Samuel, Bryan Edwards, Randrecous Davis and Dowdle all had receiving TDs in the game, and the Gamecocks averaged a heady 11.8 yards per pass attempt. It will be much more difficult to get that kind of production against UGA, but the 56 point total is partly reflective of South Carolina’s excellent offense too.

And this game has the potential to be decided perhaps by just a few points: The Gamecocks make an excellent spread bet, and for riskier bettors, the money line, too, may prove enticing in this one. Consider the trends and bet accordingly!
