Golden State took care of business at Oracle Arena, winning Game 1 in Overtime and blowing out the Cavaliers in Game 2 to take a 2-0 series lead back to Cleveland for the next two games. The Warriors are 4-point favorites on the road in Game 3, with an over/under set at 216.5 points according to NBA oddsmakers at 5dimes. A late shift in the line has seen it trend toward GSW -3.5, so keep an eye on the spread as it adjusts in the final hours.
Golden State dominated Game 2 behind 33 points from Stephen Curry on a Finals record-setting nine made three-pointers. Kevin Durant had 26, and Klay Thompson contributed another 20 points on an efficient 8 of 13 shooting night. The Warriors shot 57.3 percent from the field while turning it over only 12 times in accruing 28 team assists.
The Dubs were outrebounded by a single board, after being dominated on the glass in Game 1. It was a major adjustment, as Draymond Green had eight rebounds, Durant came up with nine, and Curry had seven to his name. The Warriors also hit 15 of 36 from three in the game (41.7 percent).
Cleveland got 29 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds from LeBron James, who finished 10 of 20 from the field and was -18 for his 44 minutes of court time. Kevin Love did add 22 points and George Hill was good for another 15, but the Cavaliers shot just 41.1 percent from the field and were 27 of 70 when James’ contribution is taken away from the totals. The Cavs also got just 21 points from its reserves, led by Jeff Green who scored six points on 2 of 7 shooting. The Cavaliers are going to need someone else to step up to help James and Love, or this series could end up being a sweep.
The Cavaliers were thought to be going towards Rodney Hood getting more minutes in Game 2, but he saw just four minutes and scored two points. Jordan Clarkson has also been a non-factor, and he played just eight minutes, scoring two.
The Cavaliers made major roster upheavals at the trade deadline, but none of the new additions are having too much of an effect. Larry Nance Jr. did see 12 minutes, but he finished with just two points and six rebounds while recording a -13 mark for his 12 minutes of play. The Cavaliers also played Kyle Korver just 17 minutes, and he was 0 of 3 from the field. Something has to give if Cleveland is to push this series back to Oakland at all.
