Both the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens began the season 2-0 but both have lost two straight games due to very poor offensive performances. The teams meet in Oakland Sunday with each looking to get back on track. The Ravens are a game behind the 3-1 Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North while the Raiders are looking up at both the 4-0 Kansas City Chiefs and 3-1 Denver Broncos in the AFC West.
Baltimore leads the series 7-3 against Oakland. The Raiders have won two straight games against the Ravens but Baltimore had won four straight games in the series before then. This is the third straight season Oakland and Baltimore have met, with the Raiders winning 28-27 in Baltimore last season.
Baltimore is coached by John Harbaugh. The Ravens have a road win at the Cincinnati Bengals 20-0 and a home win over the Cleveland Browns 24-10. Baltimore lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 44-7 in London and last week at home against the Steelers 26-9. Baltimore was a 3.5 point underdog against Pittsburgh and the total was 42. The Ravens are 2-2 ATS and the total is 1-3 this season.
Oakland is coached by Jack Del Rio. The Raiders have a road win over the Tennessee Titans 26-16 and a home win over the New York Jets 45-20. Oakland has road losses to the Washington Redskins 27-10 and last week at the Denver Broncos 16-10. Denver jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and Oakland would never recover. The big story was Oakland quarterback Derek Carr suffered a back injury in the second half and is out 2-6 weeks. E.J. Manuel will be the starter until Carr comes back. Oakland was a 3.5 point underdog against Denver and the total was 44. The Raiders are 2-2 ATS and the total is 1-3 this season.

On defense, the Raiders allow 348 yards per game including 228 passing and 120 rushing yards per game. Oakland is #19 or worse in all three categories. Quarterback Derek Carr has completed 67.9% of his passes for 753 yards with 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, plus 4 carries for 7 yards. He has been sacked 8 times. He was officially listed as doubtful on the injury report but he is out. Manuel threw for 106 yards and an interception in relief of Carr last week. Connor Cook is the back-up if anything happens to Manuel.
Running back Marshawn Lynch has 45 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown, plus 3 catches for 28 yards. Jalen Richard has 15 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown, plus 5 catches for 81 yards. Six defensive players and two offensive linemen are on the injury report. Kicker Sebastian Janikowski is out until at lest week nine with a back injury. Giorgio Tevecchio has done well as Janikowski’s replacement.
Baltimore is 5-2 ATS after allowing more than 350 total yards and on grass, 5-11-2 after failing to cover, 2-6 after a double digit home loss, 4-14-2 after a straight up loss, 2-7 in road games, 4-16-1 in October, and 2-9 in week five. The over is 4-1-1 in this series recently.
Oakland is 5-1 ATS at home, 5-2 after a straight up loss, 10-4 after scoring less than 15 points, and 7-3 after failing to cover. The home team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven games in this series.
Both teams are coming off disappointing losses to their arch rivals. The Ravens have had a lot of travel in the last three weeks, going from Baltimore to London and back and now has to go to the West Coast. Even with a back-up quarterback, I think Oakland’s offensive woes are closer to being fixed and I like the Raiders to win a close low scoring game.
