For the second straight week, two top five teams will meet in college football. Last week, #1 Alabama beat #3 Florida State 24-7 in Atlanta. This week the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes host the #5 Oklahoma Sooners. Ohio State leads the series 2-1 against Oklahoma. The Buckeyes won last year in Norman 45-24, a game that likely put Ohio State in the playoffs and kept Oklahoma out. Although it is still very early in the season this game will likely have playoff implications again.
Oklahoma is coached by Lincoln Riley. The now 34 year old won his Sooner debut after taking over for Bob Stoops as Oklahoma crushed UTEP 56-7 last week. The Sooners covered the 43 point spread and the game went over the 62.5 point spread.
Ohio State is coached by Urban Meyer. Ohio State beat Indiana 49-21 on the road last Thursday night in a game that was much closer than the score indicated. Ohio State was a 20 point favorite and the total was 55.

Oklahoma’s offense picked up right where they left off last season with a touchdown on their first drive of the game against UTEP last week. The Miners scored on their first possession too. However, UTEP would not score again. Oklahoma would only punt once in the first half as they took a 35-7 lead into halftime. The Sooners added 21 points in the second half to complete the 56-7 rout.
Oklahoma had 676 total yards including 496 passing and 180 rushing yards. UTEP had 167 total yards, including 94 passing yards and 73 rushing yards. The Miners had 78 yards on their first drive of the game and had only 89 yards for the rest of the game. The Sooners had 35 first downs to 11 for the Miners. UTEP was 4/12 on third downs and Oklahoma was 4/7 on third downs. Oklahoma had 5 penalties for 60 yards and UTEP had 5 for 50 yards. The Miners had the only turnover of the game. The Sooners held possession for 34:36.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 19 of 20 passes for 329 yards with 3 touchdowns. He didn’t even play in the second half. Kyler Murray completed 10 of 11 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. Third string quarterback Tanner Schafer even got some reps and completed 3 of 5 passes for 18 yards.
Running back Abdul Adams had 7 carries for 53 yards and had a catch for 34 yards. Marcelias Sutton had 9 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown, plus 2 catches for 29 yards. Trey Sermon had 7 carries for 51 yards. Rodney Anderson, Dimitri Flowers and Jaxon Uhles all had rushing touchdowns.
Mark Andrews had 7 catches for 134 yards and a touchdown. Jeff Badet had 4 catches for 91 yards. Lee Morris, Grant Calcaterra, and CeeDee Lamb all had touchdown catches.

Ohio State kicked a field goal against Indiana. The Hoosiers then took a 7-3 lead. The Buckeyes kicked another field goal to make it 7-6. Indiana scored another touchdown to make it 14-6. Ohio State scored before halftime to make it 14-13. The teams traded touchdowns and Indiana led 21-20 with 4:56 left in the third. However, the Hoosiers would never score again. The Buckeyes scored 29 unanswered points to end the game. Quarterback J.T. Barrett threw touchdown passes of 74 and 59 yards before the end of the third to make it 35-21. The Buckeyes added 14 points in the fourth to make the final 49-21.
Ohio State had 596 total yards including 304 passing yards and 292 rushing yards. Indiana had 437 total yards including 420 passing yards and 17 rushing yards. The Buckeyes had 26 first downs to 25 for the Hoosiers. Ohio State was 8/19 on third downs and 2/3 on fourth downs. Indiana was 9/20 on third downs and 1/1 on fourth downs. Ohio State had 5 penalties for 50 yards and Indiana had 5 for 33 yards. The Hoosies had the only 3 turnovers of the game. Ohio State held possession for 31:50.
J.T. Barrett completed 20/35 passes for 304 yards with 3 touchdowns, plus he had 13 carries for 61 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Running back J.K. Dobbins had 29 carries for 181 yards and 2 catches for 21 yards. Antonio Williams had 7 carries for 44 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Parris Campbell had 6 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown. Johnnie Dixon had 2 catches for 6 yards and a touchdown. Binjimen Victor had a touchdown catch.

Ohio State gave up a ton of yards to Indiana but stiffened when they had to as the Hoosiers scored only 21 points. Three turnovers also helped the Buckeyes. Oklahoma looked impressive against far inferior competition. The Sooners looked terrible in a blowout loss last year and have been looking forward to this game for a year. I think it is a closer game this time, but Ohio State still wins a high scoring affair.
