The Golden State Warriors were down 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals to the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, the Warriors have won two straight games to force a game seven Monday night. The winner will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals starting Thursday.
Oklahoma City stole home court with a 108-102 victory in game one. Golden State rebounded in game two with a 118-91 victory. No one, not even the most hard core Thunder fans, could have predicted what would happen next. Oklahoma City completely dominated in all phases of the game in the two games in OKC. The Thunder won game three 133-105, and led by as many as 41 points. Game four was almost as bad. The Thunder won 118-94 to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. The series returned to Oakland for game five and the Warriors won 120-111. In game six in OKC Saturday night, Golden State trailed by nine in the fourth but came back to win 108-101 to force game seven.
The Thunder were 3.5 point favorites in game six and the total was 221.5. OKC led by as many as 13 in the first half but Golden State trimmed the lead to 5 by halftime. The Thunder expanded the lead back to eight by the end of the third. Oklahoma City looked good early in the fourth, and even still led by 7 with around five minutes to go. However, then the Warriors’ Splash Brothers duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson took over. The Warriors closed the game on a 19-5 run. Conversely, OKC’s star duo of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant missed shot after shot and had way too many turnovers down the stretch. Both teams shot just over 40% from the field, but the Warriors made 21/44 three pointers, including 11 from Thompson, and NBA record for a playoff game. The Thunder were a woeful 3/23 from three point range. Both teams had 15 turnovers. Thompson had 41 points. Curry had 31 points with 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Westbrook had 28 points, 11 assists, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals. Durant had 29 points. However, Westbrook and Durant were 20/58 from the field. Durant was 6/19 from the field in the first half, which is way to many shots. The duo also combined for 8 turnovers.
Oklahoma City is coached by Billy Donovan. Oklahoma City is 55-27 and won the Northwest Division by 11 games over the Portland Trail Blazers and were the #3 seed in the West. OKC is 47-51-3 ATS and the total is 46-53 this season. The Thunder beat the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the first round. All four Thunder wins in the series were by double digits. After getting crushed by the Spurs in game one by 32 points, OKC won four of the next five games to win the series in six. The Thunder are in the Conference Finals for the third time in the last six seasons, after missing the playoffs last year.
Golden State is coached by Steve Kerr. Kerr won the NBA coach of the year award despite missing almost half the season recovering from back surgery. The Warriors set an NBA record for wins in the regular season with a 73-9 record. They won the Pacific Division by 20 games over the Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors beat the Houston Rockets in five games in the first round. The Warriors then beat the Portland Trail Blazers in five games in the second round. Two time MVP Stephen Curry suffered knee and ankle injuries in the first round against the Rockets and missed six games in the playoffs. He returned for the last two games against the Blazers. Golden State is the defending NBA Champion. Golden State is 55-41-2 ATS and the total is 52-45-1.

Golden State has lost only three times at home this season, but one of those was the first game of this series. The Thunder had chances to close out the defending champions in both games five and six, but couldn’t get the job done. If the Thunder turn the ball over like they did down the stretch Saturday night, then this could be a blowout win for the Warriors. Curry and Thompson made some incredible shots in game six. I think the Warriors win, but I don’t think it will be a blowout like some people think.
