The 6-2 Philadelphia Eagles are in first place in the NFC East by a half game over over the 7-3 Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles look to stay in first place as they host the 3-5-1 Carolina Panthers Monday night. The Panthers are in second place in the NFC South behind the 4-5 New Orleans Saints.
Since 2003, Philadelphia leads the series against Carolina 4-2. The Panthers won the last meeting 30-22 in Philadelphia in 2012. The other Carolina win in that stretch came in the 2004 NFC Championship game.
Carolina is coached by Ron Rivera. The Panthers started off the season 2-0 but have gone 1-5-1 since then. Carolina has a road win at the Buccaneers 20-14, plus home wins against the Detroit Lions 24-7 and Chicago Bears 31-24. The Panthers tied 37-37 at the Cincinnati Bengals. Carolina has losses at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers 37-19 the Seattle Seahawks 13-9, and last week against the New Orleans Saints 28-10, plus road losses at the Baltimore Ravens 38-10 and Packers 38-17. The Panthers are 5-4 ATS and the total is 5-4 this season. Carolina was a 3 point underdog against the Saints and the total was 48.5.
Philadelphia is coached by Chip Kelly. The Eagles have road losses at the San Francisco 49ers 26-21 and Arizona Cardinals 24-20. Philadelphia has home wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-17, Washington Redskins 37-34, St. Louis Rams 34-28, and New York Giants 27-0, plus road wins at the Indianapolis Colts 30-27 and last week against the Houston Texans 31-21. Running back Jonathan Stewart has 66 carries for 263 yards with a touchdown, plus 11 catches for 85 yards. DeAngelo Williams has 33 carries for 126 yards. Receiver Kelvin Benjamin has 40 catches for 589 yards and 5 touchdowns. Tight End Greg Olson has 45 catches for 539 yards and 5 touchdowns. Receiver Jerricho Cotchery has 28 catches for 375 yards. Five defensive players and six offensive linemen are questionable or out for the Panthers.

Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles broke his collarbone in Sunday’s win over the Texans. He is out until at least mid-December. Mark Sanchez will be the starter until Foles returns. Sanchez has not started since 2012 when he was with the New York Jets. Foles threw for 2,163 yards with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and rushed for 68 yards. Against Houston, Sanchez threw for 202 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in his only action of the season.
Running back LeSean McCoy has 161 carries for 622 yards with a touchdown, along with 20 catches for 94 yards. Darren Sproles has 35 carries for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns, along with 20 catches for 244 yards. Sproles even has a punt return for a touchdown. Chris Polk has a rushing touchdown and a kick return for a touchdown. He is probable with a concussion. Receiver Jeremy Maclin has 45 catches for 790 yards and 8 touchdowns. Tight end Zach Ertz has 25 catches for 358 yards and two touchdowns. Riley Cooper has 31 catches for 331 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Matthews has 32 catches for 313 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Carolina is 4-1 ATS in November, 4-1-1 after scoring less than 15 points, 11-4 after allowing more than 350 total yards, 5-2-1 after failing to cover, 11-5 against NFC teams, 11-5-1 on grass, 2-5 in road games, 7-19-1 after passing for less than 150 yards, and 0-5-1 after gaining less than 250 total yards. The over is 5-2 in this series recently.
Philadelphia is 4-0 ATS after gaining more than 350 total yards, and in November, 5-2 at home, 9-4 in Monday games, 2-5 after rushing for over 150 yards, and against NFC teams, and 2-8 against teams with losing road records.
It will be interesting to see how the Eagles perform with Sanchez at the helm. He was decent against the Texans but there is a reason he was released by the Jets. Carolina meanwhile has struggled on both sides of the ball. Last year, they rode a dominant defense that was able to overcome a mediocre offense. This year the defense hasn’t been nearly as strong and the Panthers have a losing record. I think the Eagles win at home.
