San Jose State split its first two games of the season before enjoying a bye in Week 3, as it looks to gain revenge from last year’s 43-24 against Minnesota as four-point road underdogs.  The Spartans have wins over Big Ten Conference members Minnesota and Illinois, which is important to consider when making your Week 4 college football picks, while their 2-6 against original members in that situation overall.  The program has dropped its last 10 road games following a bye week since 1993.  San Jose State is 4-5 SU and 6-3 ATS as underdogs the last two-plus seasons.

The Spartans have a chance of covering this number if they can create big plays in special teams, which is possible due to their No. 1 ranking in punt return average at 36.5 yards per return.  San Jose State quarterback Blake Jurich is also the fifth-most accurate passer in the country, as he’s completed 38 of 52 passes in 2014.  It’s important to point out that Jurich is protected by an offensive line that began the season with just 23 combined starters.

Minnesota is set to play its final non-conference game of the season, as it returns home after suffering a 30-7 setback to the TCU Horned Frogs as 17-point underdogs, while going UNDER the betting total for the second time in three opportunities.  The Golden Gophers have compiled a respectable 14-9 SU home record under head coach Jerry Kill, which can’t be ignored when looking over the NCAA football odds.  Minnesota is 11-1 SU and 8-4 ATS as favorites over the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 6-5 in that situation.

The Golden Gophers have 28 interceptions in their last 29 games, with Briean Boddy-Calhoun leading the way with three picks in his last five games played.  Minnesota has been flagged just 12 times in three games, which ties it with Michigan for the fewest penalties by a Big Ten program.  Keep an eye on the injury report, as quarterback Mitch Leidner is dealing with a toe injury, but he’s rushed for nine career touchdowns in 13 games played—producing a 5-2 record as a starter.

Sports bettors will likely back the Golden Gophers due to their 10-6 ATS mark at home since the start of the 2012 campaign.
