The Texas A&M Aggies have won their last five games against the SMU Mustangs

Texas A&M is enjoying its highest national ranking since Sept. 8, 2013, as it attempts to win its sixth consecutive meeting against SMU.  Third-year Aggie head coach Kevin Sumlin has compiled an 11-2 record away from Kyle Field since taking over the program, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college football lines, especially with the school within rank of hitting 200 points in the first game of the season for the first time since 1917.  Texas A&M is 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS as favorites of 31 or more points the last two-plus seasons.

The Aggies haven’t missed Johnny Manziel under center, as signal-caller Kenny Hill become the first player in school history to reach 1,000 passing yards in the first three games of the season.  Texas A&M ranks 11th nationall in yards per play with an average gain of 7.6.  In 81 games as a head coach, Sumlin’s team has never failed to score double-digit points in a contest.

SMU will be playing its first game under interim head coach Tom Mason, as he takes over for the departed June Jones, who resigned earlier this month.  The Mustangs are familiar with what Mason brings to the table, as he’s spent the previous six campaigns as the team’s defensive coordinator.  Redshirt freshman Kolney Cassel will be making his first start Saturday, but he’s appeared under center in the first two games of the season—totaling 154 yards and one touchdown.  SMU is 5-13 SU and 8-9-1 ATS as underdogs the last two-plus seasons, with no clear edge in terms of the betting total (9-9 Over/Under).

The Mustangs are 29-44-7 SU all-time against the Aggies, with their last win coming in Dallas in 1984.  SMU has been outgained 927-341 through two games, which has been caused by giving up 506 yards on the ground and rushing for minus-16 when possessing the football.

Sports bettors will likely back the Aggies due to the favorite covering the number in the last four meetings in this series.
