The South Florida Bulls dropped each of its past two weeks to then-No. 20 Louisville and Houston, and it will have trouble getting back on track this week at home against a Memphis squad which college football oddsmakers favor by 1.5-points over the Bulls.
South Florida has won just two games on the season and has had a lot of trouble generating offense. The Bulls average just 254.3 yards per game, and have managed to score just 15.4 points per contest.
The rush has been particularly ineffective at getting into the end zone, with just two rushing TDs (both from Marcus Shaw) on the season. Bobby Eveld has a 39.6 percent completion ratio and only Mike White has posted a decent clip (62.8%).
Memphis is not wildly successful offensively, either, but it has a much stronger defense than South Florida. The Tigers have allowed 21.9 points per game this season, to South Florida’s 30-plus. Also, the Tigers generate some 90 more yards per game than South Florida, though the team scores just 20.4 per game.
Paxton Lynch has been reasonably good at QB for Memphis this season with 1,522 yards and a 60 percent completion ratio, but he has thrown more interceptions (7) than TDs (6). Brandon Hayes and Marquis Warford have been effective backs and Warford is averaging 6.0 yards per carry on the season.
