Mississippi had its three-game win streak to open the season snapped last Saturday, as it suffered a 25-0 setback to the Alabama Crimson Tide as 14-point road underdogs, while going UNDER the betting total of 55. The Rebels are 3-1 for the second straight year, while they’ve been nationally ranked for four consecutive weeks. It’s important to point out that the program will play back-to-back games in the state of Alabama for the first time since 1932. Mississippi is 2-0 SUATS when the betting line is between +3 to -3 this season, with the OVER cashing in both of those affairs.
The Rebels have played 12 true freshmen this season, which is tied for the eighth-most in major college football—something to consider when making your college football predictions in Week 6. Mississippi needs quarterback Bo Wallace to step it up under center, as he ranked seventh in the SEC in total offense at 233.0 yards per game. He has the luxury of handing the ball off to senior running back Jeff Scott, who ranks fourth in school history with 3,465 all-purpose yards.
Auburn is 3-1 in its first season under head coach Gus Malzahn, who came over from Arkansas State—a school that was once led by Mississippi front man Hugh Freeze. The Tigers are 27-10 SU all-time against the Rebels, including a 13-2 mark when playing at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Eight of the last nine games in this Southeastern Conference series have been decided by a double-digit margin, including four games by 20 points or more. Auburn is 3-14 SU and 6-11 ATS as an underdog the last two-plus seasons.
The Tigers have a losing 95-141-6 all-time record against top 25 opponents, but they’ve gone 41-36-2 at home in that situation, which is hard to ignored when looking over the college football odds page Saturday night. Auburn will be looking to reach the 30-point plateau, as it has won 79 consecutive games when reaching that mark. Offensively, the team has scored on 13 of 14 trips inside the red zone—tied with this week’s opponent in that category among SEC schools.
Sports bettors will likely back the Rebels due to their 6-2 ATS mark on the road.
