Wisconsin has opened a season with back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1958, which includes a 48-0 victory over Tennessee Tech as 44.5-point home favorites last Saturday. The Badgers have jumped out to a 3-0 record in nine of the last 10 seasons, with the lone exception being last year, which is important to consider when making your college football expert picks. The program has played 13 night games since the start of the 2009 campaign, going 10-3 under the lights. Wisconsin is 0-2 ATS as underdogs of 3.5 to 10 points the last two-plus seasons.
The Badgers are the first Big Ten Conference team since at least 2000 to rush for a combined 750 yards over its first two games of a season. Dating back to the Rose Bowl, Wisconsin’s defense has not allowed a touchdown in 11 consecutive quarters. Offensively, senior running back James White is the player to watch, as he’s ran for 2,823 career yards. His school-record average of 6.2 yards per carry over his career ranks second among active FBS running backs. The team is 11-0 when White rushes for 100 yards in a game.
Arizona State is 8-0 SU all-time against Big Ten opponents when playing at Sun Devil Stadium, outscoring those opponents by a 320-111 combined margin. The Sun Devils will look for a major performance from quarterback Taylor Kelly, who has completed 76 of 102 passes for 1,005 yards and 13 touchdowns with no interceptions in his last four games. Six of the team’s seven touchdowns in a 55-0 win over Sacramento State on Sept. 5 came in 2:23 or less. Arizona State is 2-5 ATS as favorites of 3.5 to 10 points the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 5-2 in that situation.
The Sun Devils are 9-1-1 SU all-time in the game following a shutout at their current venue when playing their next affair in Tempe. Arizona State has been known to start fast under head coach Todd Graham, as it has outscored the opposition 159-69 in the first quarter. Offensively, the team has averaged 51 points over its last four games dating back to 2012.
Sports bettors will likely back the Sun Devils due to their 6-1 ATS mark in their last seven games versus Big Ten foes.
