NFL- Perfect So Far

After three weeks in the NFL, there are three teams in the AFC and two teams in the NFC that have perfect 3- 0 records.
Here’s a check on the two NFC teams—the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys.

Let’s start with a real surprise—Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers sit atop the NFC North by one game over the Lions. The Pack has scored 82 points while giving up 50. Favre is off to a great start. The aging vet led Green Bay to their latest victory by racking up 3 TDs, 369 yards and a 62.2% completion rate.

The Dallas Cowboys, led by QB Tony Romo, are a scoring machine having hit for 116 points over their first three games. Of the top teams in both conferences, the Cowboys have given up the most points—65. Romo, who has a 111.9 QB rating, has hit for 8 TDs and 860 yards with a 58.0 CMP%. The fortunes of Dallas have certainly changed with the retirement of Cowboy QB Drew Bledsoe after last season, Romo has become a big play field general with the ability to escape from encircling defenses and make things happen.

In the AFC, it’s the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots that are riding a wave of perfection.

The Colts offer a solid scoring attack led by perhaps the best QB in the league Peyton Manning. Manning, who has thrown five TD passes and one interception, has a QB rating of 104.9 and a completion percentage of 65.3. After 10 years in the league and one Super Bowl ring, Manning is an impressive QB, ably reading defenses and adjusting his offense on the spot. Indy’s strength is in its passing game as they’re rated second, behind New England, in the AFC. But they are 16th in the NFL in rushing. They have the fifth best defense in the AFC.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, remember that they won the Super Bowl two seasons ago and stumbled last season when they didn’t make the post-season, are back. They’ve got the second-best defense in the league and the second best rushing game in the league. But their passing attack is below average. QB Ben Roethlisberger has hit for six TDs, 563 yards and a completion rate of 59.7%. His QB rating is 102.9. The Steelers have scored a total of 97 points and allowed only 26 in three contests. The club has a 71-point differential between points for and points against, which is very respectable. Pittsburgh’s defense is rated second overall and is especially effective versus the run.

Finally, there are the New England Patriots. So, how good are they? Many claim they are the best. Here’s what the numbers say. QB Tom Brady has the best rating in the league—141.8. He has thrown 10 TD passes and only one INT. He has a completion rate of 79.5%, which is remarkable. His favorite receiver is Randy Moss, who is rated second in the league. Moss has five TDs and 403 yards with an average of 18.1 per reception. On top of that the Pats are fourth in the league in rushing and first in defense. They are second versus the pass and fifth against the rush. New England has scored a total of 116 PPG and allowed only 35. They have a differential of 81 points between PF and PA, which is best in the league. Over the first three weeks, the Pats are the best club in the NFL.

I rate them this way:

1) Pats

2) Colts

3) Cowboys

4) Packers

5) Steelers

At least that’s how I see them now. What do you think?
