We are about six weeks away from what I feel is the best time of the year when it comes to sports. Late-September to late-October gives us the opportunity to see baseball, football, basketball and hockey all being played at just about the same time!
NFL football gears up with pre-season activity in early August and the college and pro ranks start in on their regular seasons in late August-early September. Baseball is headed into the home stretch at that point and as MLB is about to start the playoffs, the NHL begins skating. A few weeks after the World Series is decided, the NBA and college hoops are on the boards.
It’s a massive time of year! It’s not just the fact that the four major sports in America are all up and running or about to be going, but there’s such promise at the beginning of any season and so much excitement at the end of the longest season in all of sports—the MLB season of 162 games.
Hockey and basketball play 82 each and the NFL plays 16 games.
It’s always tough for me to decide upon what game, team, sport I’m going to focus in September and October.
Lots of folks bet on football and basketball. But not enough pay attention to the NHL. The fact is if you know what you’re doing and/or utilize a handicapping service such as Maddux Sports, you can really cleanup on the NHL. Of course, Maddux also provides premium picks for the NFL, NBA, NCAA football and basketball and MLB.
I feel that 2007 is especially exciting due to the changing balance of power in the NFL, the new talent and major trades in the NBA, the close and unpredictable races in MLB and the new parity in the NHL. And then there are the two major college sports of football and basketball, which bring a whole lot of surprises each week.
I’m hoping I don’t have to leave my house, shut off my TV or stop surfing the net from mid-September to late October. Don’t bother asking me any questions, talking to me about anything important or asking me to do anything, I’m watching sports. All of them. 24/7. I’ll see you in November.
