The 13-18 West Virginia Mountaineers finished in 8th place in the Big 12 in their first year in the conference with a 6-12 record. The Mountaineers will take on #9 seed Texas Tech in the first round of the Big 12 tournament Wednesday in Kansas City. The Red Raiders are 10-19 overall and were 3-15 in the Big 12 ahead only 2 win TCU. The winner of this game will face #1 seed Kansas in the quarters Thursday.
This is the fourth ever meeting between West Virginia and Texas Tech. West Virginia leads the series 3-0. The Mountaineers won both meetings this year, 77-61 in Lubbock February 2 and 66-64 in Morgantown February 16.
Texas Tech is led interim coach Chris Walker. Walker became the head coach when Billy Gillespie had to step down for health reasons just before the season started. The Mountaineers have lost 6 straight games to close out the regular season, including 83-74 at home against Iowa St Saturday. The Mountaineers have wins over Marist in Orlando, Marshall in Charleston, Virginia Tech, Oakland, at Texas twice, TCU twice, and Texas Tech twice. The Mountaineers’ six Big 12 wins have come against the other 3 worst teams in the Big 12. Texas, Texas Tech, and TCU are all under .500. WVU is 9-18-2 ATS and the total is 14-15 this season.

These are two terrible teams that are just playing out their season. Whichever of these teams survives will likely get smoked by Kansas who already beat both of these teams by 26 and 37 points earlier in march. For the loser their season ends tonight. I think West Virginia wins but they shouldn’t be favored by 8.5 points over anybody right now.
