Cleveland earned its first win of the season last week over the Cincinnati Bengals, but it’s still important to note that the squad was out-gained by a 110-yard margin, while going OVER the total for a second-straight week. The Browns are now focused on trying to win back-to-back games for the first time since September 2011, which could prove difficult due to losing their last 10 games away from home. Cleveland is 8-8 ATS as a road underdog over the last two-plus years, with the UNDER going 10-7 in that situation.
The Browns have been happy with the progress Brandon Weeden has been making under center, completing 129 of 231 passes for 1,519 yards and seven touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Josh Gordon has been his favorite target in the passing game, leading the team with 274 yards and three touchdowns despite having only 12 receptions. Cleveland should find some success on the ground, considering its opponent has allowed a 159.0 rushing yards per game.
Indianapolis has alternated wins and losses over its first five games, coming off a 35-9 setback to the New York Jets as 3.5-point road underdogs, while going OVER the total for a second-straight week. Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck completed 22-of-44 passes for 280 yards and no touchdowns, while also throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble. “It’s learning how to be consistent,” stated Luck after the game. “Something I’ve struggled with.” Indianapolis is 0-4 ATS as a home favorite of three or fewer points.
The Colts suffered a 27-19 loss to the Browns as one-point home underdogs on Sept. 18, 2011, as the two teams went OVER the total for the first time in the last four meetings. Indianapolis allowed 252 rushing yards against the Jets last week, which has been a focal point in practice, as it gets ready to take on Cleveland rookie Trent Richardson. On the offensive end, Luck will need to continue finding wide receiver Reggie Wayne, who leads the NFL with 118.6 receiving yards per game.
Sports bettors will likely back the Browns due to their 7-2-1 ATS mark in their last 10 games, while the Colts are 5-11 ATS following a loss of more than 14 points.
