The California Golden Bears are 0-5 ATS as road favorites the last two-plus seasons

Cal hits the road after picking up a convincing 43-17 victory over the UCLA Bruins as 2.5-point home underdogs last week, while also going OVER the total for the first time in three games.  The Golden Bears have a great chance to keep that momentum going, as they’ve won the last seven meetings, including three straight in Pullman.  Defensively, the team created six turnovers last week, which definitely set the table for the offense.  California is 0-5 ATS as a road favorite the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 3-2 in that situation.

The Golden Bears could definitely have a better record than their current 2-4 mark, considering they’ve been within one score in the fourth quarter in all four of their losses.  Quarterback Zach Maynard has completed 112-of-181 passes for 1,348 yards, while throwing for nine touchdowns and five interceptions.  Wide receiver Keenan Allen is definitely his main target, currently ranking 22nd nationally in averaging 6.83 catches per game.  California’s top three rushers have combined for 958 yards on the ground through the first half of the regular season, as the group ranks fourth in the conference.

Washington State will be focused on snapping its three-game losing streak, which includes a 19-6 setback to the Oregon State Beavers as 15.5-point road underdogs last week.  The Cougars have managed to cover their last two games, while the OVER is 3-1 in their last four contests.  First-year head coach Mike Leach has faced California just one time in his career, coming away with a 45-31 win in the 2004 Holiday Bowl during his time with Texas Tech.  Washington State is 2-0 ATS as a home underdog of 7.5 to 14 points since 2010.

The Cougars are definitely one of the better teams in the country in terms of getting after the quarterback, as they’ve tallied 19 sacks after adding three more against the Beavers.  On the offensive side of the ball, Washington State has gotten very little out of its signal-callers, as the unit is averaging just 21 points per game.  Connor Halliday and Jeff Tuel have gotten very little help from a rushing attack that averages just 41 yards per game.

Sports bettors will likely back the Cougars due to their 11-3 ATS mark in October, while the Golden Bears are 3-9 ATS on the road.
