In a shocking form of events out of the Big 12 Conference powerhouse Norman Oklahoma, sophomore starting quarterback Rhett Bomar has been dismissed from the Oklahoma Sooners football team. In a statement from Oklahoma university, Bomar was kicked off for violating NCAA rules.
The rules violations reportedly are for receiving excess payments for work at a private business (a local car dealership).Â
Bomar started 11 games for the Sooners last year, while setting a freshmen record of 2,018 passing yards. Fresh off a 17-14 win over Oregon in the holiday bowl, high expectations had been in store for the Sooners in 2006. Sophomore Joey Halzle is expected to take over the starting reins.
Offensive lineman JD Quinn has also been dismissed for the same actions.

And so the pendulum swings the Longhorns’ way. Can’t wait to see what that does to the lines.
Stoops just had his press conference. Said the players knew they were breaking the rules for quite some time and that is conduct he will not tolerate at Oklahoma. Said it was a “cut and dry issue if you break rules and NCAA violations” and added “he has no regrets”.
I was also wrong about Joey Halzle taking over the QB reins. They will go back to senior Paul Thompson.
