MICHIGAN STATE
Last week the Spartans took down 24th ranked Boise State in a 17-13 thriller, that featured the Spartans scoring the only points of the second half after finding themselves down three points at the half.
La’Veon Bell was the reason for victory. He said “I had no idea how many carries or yards I had. It was the most I’ve had in my collegiate career, but I’ve still got a lot of things to work on to get better.”
Bell ran for 210 yards, which was enough for the Spartans to pull a victory, despite turning the ball over four times. Three of those four turnovers were Andrew Maxwell interceptions, though Maxwell did finish with 248 passing yards on 22 of 38 throwing.
If Bell can get even better, it will only further help the 11th ranked Spartans. They shot up two spots in the AP poll after the victory, and further improvement is very possible. Bell is going to help Spartans’ fans forget the loss of Edwin Baker, who left to enter the NFL last season. As the primary ball carrier now, he had 44 carriers on Friday night, which more than doubled his previous high of 20. Expect Bell to get a lot of touches Saturday, as well.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Central Michigan won 38-27 over Southeast Missouri last week, as Zurlon Tipton ran for 180 yards, a career high, while also recording three TDs. He had 32 and 48 yard TD runs in the first half, while recording 120 yards in the first half on eight carries. The Chippewas put together 324 total rushing yards on the game, which ranks them 7th in the nation through week one.
They trailed 27-24 after a 20 yard TD pass by SE Missouri, but proceeded to score two TDs after that to run away with the victory.
