The New York Yankees are still one of just two MLB teams that have yet to lose four consecutive games, capturing a 4-3 win over the New York Mets on Saturday night.  The Bronx Bombers scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, courtesy of two home runs, giving the club a major league-leading 110 round trippers on the season.  “When you think about our club, they’re in scoring position when they walk to the plate,” stated manager Joe Girardi.  New York is 12-5 in interleague play this season.

Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia (9-3, 3.55 ERA) has won consecutive starts, including a 6-2 home win over the Atlanta Braves last time out, tossing a complete game and giving up just two earned runs.  The left-hander is 5-1 with a 4.58 ERA in eight road starts, issuing 16 walks and striking out 49 batters in 55 combined frames.  In four career games versus the Mets, Sabathia has tallied a 3-1 record and 2.25 ERA.

The New York Mets four-game win streak came to an end after failing to hold onto an early 3-0 lead, but the club still ranks second in the majors with 23 victories at home.  “The thing that has saved us thus far has been our two-out hitting,” stated Mets Manager Terry Collins.  “We didn’t have it tonight.”  The Mets have dropped four straight series to their crosstown rival, while going 4-7 in games played inside this ball park overall.  New York is 10-15 versus left-handed starters this year, with the “over” going 20-4 in those contests.

Mets starting pitcher R.A. Dickey (11-1, 2.00 ERA) has been absolutely brilliant at home this season, posting a 6-0 record and 1.20 ERA in seven starts.  The right-hander has led the club to nine straight wins when he takes the mound, which includes back-to-back complete game victories in his last two efforts.  In nine career games (three starts) versus the Yankees, Dickey has gone 3-1 wit ha 2.30 ERA, limiting them to a .237 batting average.

Bettors will likely back the Yankees due to their 8-1 record in Sabathia’s last nine interleague starts, while the Mets are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings of this series.
