The Milwaukee Brewers (22-28) and Los Angeles Dodgers (32-18) will close out a four-game National League series on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, with the
Milwaukee Brewers at Los Angeles Dodgers
Milwaukee has won four of six on its current seven-game road trip that ends on Thursday night, including the first three games of this series. The Brewers are 5-1 against the Dodgers, who came into the set with the best record in baseball. “The last three nights, we’ve put it together, the pitching, the offense,” commented Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez. The club will now be focused on picking up its first Thursday victory of the 2012 MLB season. Milwaukee is 2-3 as a road favorite of -125 to -150 this season, with the “over” going 3-2 in those contests.
Brewers starting pitcher Zack Greinke (5-2, 3.66 ERA) will look to bounce back from a poor start last time out, dropping an 8-5 road decision to the Arizona Diamondbacks, allowing seven runs and 10 hits over just 2.1 innings of work. The right-hander has produced an even 2-2 record and 7.03 ERA in five road outings, with opposing batters hitting .369 against him. In three career games versus the Dodgers, Greinke is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA, including a no-decision effort in a 3-2 home win on April 18. He surrendered two runs and four hits over seven strong innings in that effort.
Los Angeles has lost three games in a row due to an offense that has totaled just six runs over that span, but more importantly, outfielder Matt Kemp may be landing on the disabled list for the second time this season with a hamstring injury. The Dodgers managed to make due without last year’s runner-up to the NL MVP award the first time around, posting a 9-5 record with truly a make-shift lineup. Los Angeles is 4-1 ATS as a home underdog of +100 to +125 this season.
Dodgers starting pitcher Chad Billingsley (2-3, 3.88 ERA) has led the club to back-to-back home victories over the St. Louis Cardinals and Houston Astros, but didn’t manage to gain a decision in either effort. The right-hander is 1-1 with a 3.66 ERA in six home starts, issuing 15 walks and striking out 33 in 32 frames. In eight lifetime appearances (six starts) versus the Brewers, Billingsley is 2-1 with a 4.31 ERA, but didn’t earn a decision in a 5-4 road loss on April 17 in the series.
Bettors will likely back the Brewers due to their 20-6 mark in Greinke’s last 26 starts, while the Dodgers are 1-4 in their last five home games against right-handed starters.
