Chicago was unable to hold two late-inning leads in dropping a 8-7 road decision to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.  “Our team is resilient,” stated Cubs outfielder David DeJesus.  “We feel we’re going to win every game and no game is over until it’s over.”  The Cubs are now 10-8 in their last 18 games, while going 3-0-2 in their last five series.  Shortstop Starlin Castro continues to get the job done at the plate, entering with a 10-game hit streak, but has managed just one hit in 10 career at-bats against Saturday’s opposing starter.  Chicago is 6-10 against division opponents this year.

Cubs starting pitcher Chris Volstad (0-4, 6.55 ERA) has yet to lead the team to victory in his first six starts of the season, as he comes off a 5-1 home loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, giving up five runs and four hits over five frames.  The right-hander is 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA in two road starts, but has not allowed a home run in 12 frames.  In five career starts versus the Brewers, Volstad has tallied an even 1-1 mark and 2.30 ERA, including a 1-0 record and 0.66 ERA in two outings at this ball park.

Milwaukee has now won nine consecutive home games against Chicago, as outfielder Corey Hart provide a pair of clutch hits down the stretch.  “It was an interesting ballgame,” stated Brewers manager Ron Roenicke.  Offensively, the team managed to walk 14 times last night, which was the third-highest total in franchise history.  Outfielder Ryan Braun continues to produce in the power department, leading all NL players with nine home runs since April 21.  Milwaukee is 37-9 as a home favorite of minus-150 to minus-175 the last two-plus seasons.

Brewers starting pitcher Shaun Marcum (1-1, 3.41 ERA) has failed to pick up a win since his first start of the season on April 9, as the club has dropped his last five efforts.  The right-hander didn’t factor into the decision in a 4-3 road loss to the San Francisco Giants, giving up three runs and five hits over six frames.  In three lifetime outings versus the Cubs, Marcum has produced a perfect 3-0 record and 2.70 ERA, which includes a 7-5 road win on April 9.

Bettors will likely back the Cubs due to their 8-0 mark following a loss, while the Brewers are 0-7 in Marcum’s last seven efforts as a home favorite.
