The Los Angeles Angels (2-5) and New York Yankees (4-3) will meet in the middle game of a three-game weekend series on Saturday afternoon inside Yankee Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05 ET on FOX

Los Angeles surrendered three-first inning runs to the New York Yankees and that was certainly enough in a 5-0 loss on Friday afternoon inside Yankee Stadium.  The Angels are definitely having trouble living up to high expectations that their fan base has put on them this year since signing first baseman Albert Pujols.  “It’s the seventh game,” stated Angels pitcher Ervin Santana.  Offensively, the team’s current roaster came in collectively with a .301 batting average against the Bronx Bombers, while hitting .292 in the Bronx over the last three seasons.  Los Angeles is 5-2 in its last seven Saturday games.

Angels starting pitcher C.J. Wilson (1-0, 1.29 ERA) tallied an impressive 5-1 road victory over the Minnesota Twins in his season debut for his new team, allowing just one run and three hits over seven innings.  The left-hander will be making his fifth career start (22nd appearance) against the Yankees, coming in with an 0-3 record and 3.80 ERA, but allowed just two runs and seven hits over eight frames in his one start inside Yankee Stadium in 2011.

New York has been quite dominant in its home openers over the last 15 seasons, picking up its 14th win in that span against the Angels.  “You get an early lead, it’s pretty good,” stated Yankees manager Joe Girardi about the effort.  The Yankees bullpen has also been outstanding, holding opponents scoreless in 15.1 consecutive innings heading into the series opener.  The club has won 11 of its last 15 home games in this series.  New York is 170-75 in its last 245 home games versus southpaws.

Yankees starting pitcher Phil Hughes (0-1, 3.86 ERA) was handed a 3-0 road loss in his first start against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 8, allowing two runs and five hits over 4.2 frames.  The right-hander will be making his seventh appearance (fourth start) against the Angels, bringing in a 3-1 mark and 6.20 ERA.  Hughes was absolutely terrible in seven home starts in 2011, posting a 1-2 mark and 7.83 ERA, allowing opponents to hit .326 against him.

Bettors will likely back the Angels due to their 38-15 record after scoring two runs or less, while the Yankees are 1-6 in their last seven games versus a pitcher with a WHIP less than 1.15.
